Home sauna installation checklist: from delivery to first use

Planning starts before checkout: the sauna kit, delivery route, power supply and room or yard all need to work together.

1. Confirm the exact purchased configuration

Record the model, variant, supplier and included heater or infrared panel package. Ask the merchant to identify every missing component in writing. A family-level listing with selectable doors, wood or heater sizes is not a substitute for the final configuration.

2. Measure the entire route

Check more than floor area. Measure access through gates or interior doors, the delivery route, stairs, turning space, final ceiling height and door swing. Compare your notes with the manufacturer’s package and assembled dimensions. Where a model provides only exterior dimensions, request the missing drawings rather than estimating.

3. Prepare the site according to the manual

For outdoor installations, confirm the required base, drainage, weather protection and any local rules before accepting delivery. Indoors, check floor suitability, air circulation and required assembly clearance. Different models have different instructions; do not assume a generic sauna installation guide overrides the exact manufacturer manual.

4. Get the electrical work quoted

Have a qualified electrician review the model’s documented power and circuit requirements. Get a written scope covering any dedicated circuit or other work, and confirm what the seller’s installer does and does not provide. 5. Separate the true project costs

Keep distinct line items for the product, optional heater, freight and delivery, taxes, base, permits where applicable, electrical work and assembly. Mark unquoted items as unknown rather than zero. Read our complete cost checklist for a practical quoting approach.

6. Review warranties and handoff

Confirm who provides the warranty for the heater and cabin, whether third-party installation affects terms, how delivery damage is reported and what commissioning instructions are supplied. Follow the manufacturer’s initial-operation guidance.
