Traditional vs. infrared home saunas: a practical buying comparison

The terms describe different heating approaches, but choosing a home kit also means choosing a location, electrical setup, configuration and installation project.

Start with the heat experience and location

A traditional electric sauna uses a heater to warm the room and stones. An infrared sauna uses panels to deliver radiant heat. Product listings may use additional marketing labels; look for the exact heater specification rather than relying on the category name. Compare the whole package, not just the initial price

The traditional kits in the catalog differ on whether a heater, controls and stones are included. Infrared cabins often integrate heating panels but still require their own electrical and installation checks. A low advertised starting price for a cabin without a heater is not directly comparable to a specified heated kit. We label both configurations and unknowns on product pages.

Room requirements remain model-specific

Published exterior width, depth and height provide a starting point, not a complete installation envelope. Allow for the door opening, delivery access and the clearance required by the manufacturer. Read the exact manual and ask a qualified electrician to assess power and wiring. The comparison tool does not approve a room or site.

Some infrared manufacturers describe particular wavelengths, low emissions, light features and remote controls.
